Eros Girls’ School is a special school for 365 learners 14 years and older with learning difficulties and learning disabilities, who have often not performed well in the Mainstream School or an academic (general education) school. The school’s mandate is to provide learners with skills training and vocational training, to enable them to occupy their rightful place in the corporate world. Vocational training courses are for hair dressing, office assistants, food preparation, educare assistants, hospitality and tourism, business services, and cosmetology.
Footsteps for Africa renovated the boarding facilities / hostels in the school, making it possible for 125 girls to board at the school from across the country. This is impactful because many girls with learning disabilities were not able to attend Eros Girls School, or they were forced to live in the community where rates of teen pregnancy were high. In 2022, 19 of the girls dropped out, with 16 due to pregnancy. The opening of the boarding facilities–made possible by a donation from Tiara and Alan Salzman of Los Angeles, California–has a tremendously positive impact on the entire school, the girls the hostels serve, and their families.
